a howling flower explores the duality of being created when human performers interact with inanimate characters on stage. Five performers and a puppet create a mysterious and poignant environment comprised of episodic short pieces in which dancers perform solos, duets, and trios on a bare stage. This new work is rooted in simple, unpredictable movement phrases that are by turns still and explosive.
- a howling flower is originally commissioned by the Bessie Schonberg/First Light Commissioning Program and Creative Residency Program of Dance Theater Workshop with support from the Ford Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, the New York State Council on the Arts, and the Jerome Robbins Foundation. a howling flower is made possible, in part, with funds from the Danspace Project 2007-2008 Commission Initiative with support from the Jerome Foundation. a howling flower is also supported by Creative Capital, Maggie Allessee National Center for Choreography at Florida State University and Jim Henson Foundation.
