“The young Ivy Baldwin is a choreographer with a knack for creating oddly coherent other worlds. Her peripatetic imagination turns her dancers into composite creatures, funny and poignant, whose gaits, gestures, and behaviors elicit fascination and empathy." - The New Yorker

Distinct and particular, Ivy Baldwin’s work uses both movement and theatrical abstraction to create nostalgic worlds inhabited by alluring characters. Bear Crown investigates the cause and effect of great transformation – personal, cultural, emotional – and the inevitable deterioration of all things powerful, beautiful, and grand.

  • Bear Crown is commissioned by Dance Theater Workshop’s Commissioning and Creative Residency Program with support from the Jerome Foundation, The Ford Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, the New York State Council on the Arts, and the Jerome Robbins Foundation. This presentation is made possible, in part, by the generous support of Judy and Steven Gluckstern through the David R. White Producers Circle.

Dance Theater Workshop performances generally run 60 - 90 minutes without an intermission. Performances start promptly at 7:30pm, there is no late seating.
