Boléro Variations

Post-Show Talk: Sep 25
Co-Presented with FIAF’s Crossing the Line Festival
“Hoghe’s collages are forged through the layering of a number of calculated and understated elements: a reduced movement vocabulary, an exploitation of stillness, light and shadow, and ritualistic interaction with objects.” – Montpellier Danse 2008
“It is important to be able to work and to go your own way - with or without success. I simply do what I have to do.“ – Raimund Hoghe
Highly regarded German writer, performer, and choreographer, Raimund Hoghe makes his long awaited US debut with Boléro Variations. Once a behind-the-scenes dramaturge for Pina Bausch, Raimund has thrown his own “body into the fight,” energizing and destabilizing audiences as he questions our conceptions of abnormality. Boléro Variations, created in Paris in 2007, features Ravel’s Boléro as well as fado and folksongs. Crossing the Line is FIAF’s annual fall festival, produced in partnership with leading New York cultural institutions, and conceived as a platform to present vibrant new works by a diverse range of transdisciplinary artists working in France and New York City.
Following Raimund’s Dance Theater Workshop performances, L’Après-midi will be presented at Danspace Project on Saturday, Sep 26 at 4pm.
- Bolero Variations’ U.S. tour is presented with the support of the Federal Foreign Office and the Goethe-Institut New York.
