"Christine Elmo was the New York standout. Her untitled excerpt was an eerie brew, equal parts beautiful and strange. …Senseless, yet full of sense: art has its own means". - The New York Times
Christine Elmo has created a quartet for four women -- Laurie Berg, Megan Byrne, Elle Erdman and Ruby MacDougall. In this structure, Elmo gleans from a number of movement patterns developed over her life in a Western society. With the contributions of the four women, she will display these inherited, cultural-specific affectations and how they contribute to an inauthentic Self.
The Studio Series brings new artistic voices to Dance Theater Workshop and opens our studios for public showings. Eight artists receive a 100-hour creative residency in our studios and a commission/stipend. This residency gives each artist the opportunity to research and develop work in a raw, process-oriented space. The outcomes are shared through two informal presentations by each artist, inviting the audience to see work at different stages of development. Studio Series artists are curated internally by the Artistic Director in conjunction with Programming staff and a guest curator from Urban Word NYC and two invited artists from the DTW season.
- STUDIO SERIES: Christine Elmo is commissioned by Dance Theater Workshop’s Commissioning and Creative Residency Program with support from The Ford Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, the New York State Council on the Arts, and the Jerome Robbins Foundation.
STUDIO SERIES showings start promptly at 7:30pm, there is no late seating.
