Twitter Community Choreography #20, part 2

We have rounded the bend with part 2 of Community Choreography #20. During part 1, we asked for a location, ideas for shooting the dance, and an order by which these moves should be performed. We took those ideas, integrated a few of them for a re-shoot with Jillian and put it all together.

    Not sure about Ronald McDonald’s head. I think the location is great though it did give me a touch of Vertigo which made me think that the music could be from Hitchcock’s Vertigo or Jefferson Airplanes “White Rabbit.” As an old feminist I can’t decide whether the boob shots bug me or if I think they are ironically funny.

    Maybe a sound or an instrument that fit each move. ex. a rain machine or water dripping for the toe wiggle.

    agree with comments about Hitchcock film music from “Vertigo” and others, all edited together.

    i don’t think the sequencing of the piece matters as much. the closeups are good. the location interferes with the composition, and doesn’t add to the piece. what the location does offer though, is the ability to manipulate/vary the original vocabulary (i.e. butt ascend, spine curl, etc.). but overall, it distorts the view somewhat. if this is the intention, then the objective was met. for the most part, the cinematography worked well.

    contribution:

    for sounds, because the piece is already set in a pedestrian backdrop, i wouldn’t use noise type sounds. juxtapose the piece with something lyrical, even classical.

    you could do a lot of editing with this, using techniques that would accentuate the movements. but don’t edit for speed, and don’t edit too much so that the movements get lost in the editing, like many music video that has dance in it. the use of speed should be executed by the performer, not the editor.

    i just discovered this website, and i like the digital collaborative nature of this composition. now if only more people would chime in.
