DANCE THEATER WORKSHOP
presents
Kimberly Bartosik/ daela
in the world premiere of
The Materiality of Impermanence
Feb 3 - 6 at 7:30pm

New York, NY, November 23, 2009 - Dance Theater Workshop presents Kimberly Bartosik/daela in the world premiere of The Materiality of Impermanence. Distinctly cinematic, the work consists of a series of scenes that spring up spontaneously, the way memories suddenly find their way into our consciousness.  These scenes are defined by sparseness, silence, and a sense of time passing. The Materiality of Impermanence illustrates Bartosik’s interest in architecture, the dynamics of space, and the imprints bodies leave on each other. Existing within a set made of LED lights, creating a shifting luminescent outline of a home, the performers’ trace disappearing walls, rooms, and hallways, each marked with the material and immaterial residues of the lives lived within them.

“Remarkable, heart-stopping … a beautiful and wrenching enigma.” - Village Voice

The work will be performed by Kimberly, Joanna Kotze, Marc Mann, Roderick Murray (set and lighting designer), and Luke Fasano (composer). This evening-length presentation marks Bartosik’s full evening debut at Dance Theater Workshop.

Performances will take place at Dance Theater Workshop in the Bessie Schönberg Theater, February 3 - 6 (Wednesday - Saturday) at 7:30pm. There will be a Pre-Show Talk on February 3 (Wednesday) at 6:30pm, a Post-show Talk on February 5 (Friday), and a free wine reception following every performance (Wednesday - Friday).
