Don’t Miss Beth and Danny!

My first exposure to these talented young choreographers was when Miguel Gutierrez curated his Young Americans program as part of Danspace Project’s Food for Thought (Jan. 2005). Pretty much everyone from that program is vital and thriving today in the NYC dance and performance world.

Their aesthetics on display in that show couldn’t have been more different: Dancing Danny, charming and comical, naïve and sweet, a real breath of fresh air; and Gill, with her cold and unsettling landscapes of technological stuff, and the slug-like human forms that inhabited them. What was obvious, and what they’ve confirmed subsequently, is the real distinction of their ‘choreographic’ voices from the crowd. They’re also both super smart, and likeable, too, not that choreographer’s need to be likable, but it doesn’t hurt.

If you haven’t been watching, these are definitely choreographers with something to say, who have a knack for communicating word-free. So, come out to DTW and show some Brooklyn pride for these BKLYN-based choreographers, or, if you’re still living in Manhattan, here’s the perfect opportunity to check out some great new work without crossing the river, in a shared program at DTW this Wed. through Sat. Dec. 1.

That’s for the lowdown, Brian. “slug-like humans forms…” man, that’s good.
